Benjamin Franklin left an impressive legacy as a founding father of the United States, drafter of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, statesman, diplomat, philosopher, printer, publisher, and prolific writer of his time. In addition, he was an innovator, inventor, and creative thinker.
For example, he organized the first successful American lending library, discovered the true nature of electricity, charted a Gulf Stream map to help in crossing the Atlantic Ocean, and, designed useful rocking chairs. Ben helped establish the first hospital, fire department, and post office, built a prototype odometer attached to his carriage for measuring mileage of postal routes, and invented swim fins!
